Service Terms
How a service request becomes a job, how estimates and written quotes work, what fees may apply, and what we and you agree to when we do repair work at your property.
This document was prepared for review by the company's legal counsel and is not yet legally reviewed.
1. About these terms
These Service Terms describe how Fix It For You LLC ("FixItForYou," "we," "us," or "our"), 51 Petersburg Road, Hackettstown, NJ 07840, handles repair requests and performs work. They apply together with the written quote you approve for a specific job. If anything in these Service Terms conflicts with your approved written quote, the quote controls for that job.
The Website Terms of Use cover the website itself and are separate from these Service Terms.
2. Who performs the work
Work is performed by FixItForYou technicians. If we assign a job to an independent contractor, we will tell you before the visit, and we share with the contractor only the details needed for that job. In either case, the quote, scheduling, and any questions or concerns go through us.
We currently serve selected ZIP codes in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, and California. We cannot accept requests from addresses outside those areas.
3. How a request becomes a job
- You submit a request through the site with your ZIP code, address, contact details, a description of the problem, and optional photos.
- We review it and contact you using the method you chose to confirm details, ask questions, and propose a visit time. Submitting a request does not obligate either of us yet.
- We visit and assess the problem, if needed, and prepare a written quote.
- You approve the written quote. Only after you approve the quote (in writing, by text, by email, or by signing on the technician's device) do we have an agreement to do the work, and only then does work begin.
We may decline a request at any point before you approve a quote, for example if the work is outside what we do, requires credentials we do not hold, or cannot be done safely.
4. Estimates vs. approved quotes
- Estimates shown on the site, given over the phone, or given before we have seen the problem are informational ranges based on typical jobs. They are not a promise of price.
- A written quote is prepared after we understand the actual problem. It describes the scope of work, labor, materials, any diagnostic or trip fee, applicable sales tax, and the total. The written quote you approve is the price for that scope of work.
- If the quote is valid for a limited time, the quote will say so.
5. Visit and diagnostic fees
Some visits require diagnostic work to find the cause of a problem before we can quote a repair. If a diagnostic fee applies, we will tell you before the visit. Whether the diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair if you go ahead with our quote is stated in the quote itself.
If you approve a quote and then cancel after a technician has already been dispatched, a trip fee may apply as described in section 8.
6. Materials and taxes
Materials and parts are itemized in the written quote, along with any applicable sales tax. If a part we quoted turns out to be unavailable or the wrong fit, we will tell you and get your approval for a substitute before installing it. Unless the quote says otherwise, replaced parts are disposed of by us; if you want to keep the old parts, tell the technician before work begins.
7. Additional work and changes in scope
Sometimes we find something during the job that was not visible before, or you ask for extra work. In either case:
- We will stop and explain what we found or what the extra work involves.
- We will give you a revised or additional written quote.
- We will not do the extra work, and will not charge for it, until you approve it.
If you decline the additional work, we will complete the originally approved scope where that is still possible and safe, and you will owe only the approved amount. If the originally approved work cannot be completed safely without the additional work, we will explain your options.
8. Cancellation and rescheduling
- Cancellation is free until a technician is dispatched to your address.
- After a technician is dispatched, a trip fee may apply as stated in your quote or confirmation.
- Rescheduling is allowed; please contact us as early as you can and we will find another time.
- If we need to cancel or reschedule, for example because of weather, illness, or an emergency at another job, we will tell you as soon as possible and offer a new time. We will not charge you for a visit we cancel.
- If nobody is available to give us access at the scheduled time (see section 9), we may treat the visit as a late cancellation.
9. Access to the property
You agree to:
- Confirm you own the property, rent it, or are authorized by the owner to have the work done.
- Make sure an adult (18 or older) is present, or has arranged access, at the scheduled time.
- Give the technician a clear, safe path to the work area and move fragile or personal items out of the way.
- Secure pets during the visit.
- Tell us in advance about anything that could affect the work, such as known hazards, prior repairs, or conditions at the property.
If we cannot safely access the work area, we may stop the job and reschedule.
10. Safety, permits, and licensed trades
Your safety and our technicians' safety come first. We may pause or decline work that cannot be done safely.
Some work requires a permit or must be performed by a licensed tradesperson (for example, certain electrical, plumbing, gas, HVAC, or structural work). We perform such work only where we hold the required license or credential for that location. Otherwise, we will refer you to an appropriately licensed professional or decline that part of the job. Where a permit is required, the quote will say who is responsible for obtaining it and any permit costs.
We will tell you if we discover a condition that we believe is unsafe, even if it is outside the scope of the job.
11. Arrival windows
When we schedule a visit, we give you an arrival window. Arrival windows and any ETA shown in messages are estimates, not guarantees, because earlier jobs and traffic vary. Your arrival is confirmed only when our dispatch team confirms it (for example, by a "technician on the way" message). If we are running late, we will let you know.
12. Payment
Payment is due when the work described in the approved quote is complete, unless the quote states a different schedule (for example, a deposit for special-order materials). We accept the payment methods listed on your quote or invoice. If online payment is enabled, you pay through a hosted payment page run by our payment provider; we never see or store your card number.
If a payment is late, we may charge interest or costs of collection to the extent allowed by law, and we may decline further work until the balance is paid.
13. Issues and warranty
If something is not right after we finish, please tell us as soon as possible so we can look at it. Contact us at help@fixitforyou.org or +19086453469 with your job details and a description (and photos, if helpful) of the issue.
Workmanship warranty terms, if any, are stated in your written quote. Manufacturer warranties on parts and materials, where available, are passed through to you on the manufacturer's terms. Warranty coverage does not include damage caused by misuse, neglect, alterations by others, or conditions unrelated to the work we performed.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our liability for any job is limited to the amount you paid for that job, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. This does not limit liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here reduces any rights you have under your state's consumer-protection laws.
14. Communications
We will contact you about your request using the method you chose. If you chose text messages, we send only transactional messages about your request and appointments; message and data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP at any time to stop receiving texts (we may then contact you by another method). Marketing texts or emails are sent only if you separately opt in. We do not record phone calls.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these Service Terms from time to time. The version in effect when you approve a quote applies to that job. The effective date and version are shown at the top of this page.
